THE HONORABLE ESTHER HAYWOOD
For over 40 years Esther Haywood has been a civil rights and social justice advocate in her community. Haywood is currently President of the St. Louis County NAACP, where under her leadership the Branch has experienced record-breaking success. A native of Arlington Tennessee, Haywood was one of five African American teachers to integrate the Shelby County, Tennessee Public School District. In 2000 Haywood was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives, where she served for 4 terms. In 2008 she retired due to term limits. In the Legislature Rep. Haywood established her self as a strong advocate for working families, higher education, financial literacy, greater access to the voting box, and a strong opponent of right to work legislation.
